Copilot Upgrade: Welcoming the Sonnet Engine (Claude’s engine)
A Smarter, Faster Copilot Experience
Microsoft has started to roll out the new Sonnet engine across Copilot! This will bring a noticeable improvement in speed, accuracy, and the quality of responses. For Kinetics clients using Copilot every day, this means a smoother, more capable AI assistant, with no configuration required.
What’s New With Sonnet?
You’ll see benefits immediately, including:
- Sharper summaries and rewrites, ideal for email, documents, and reporting.
- Faster responses, reducing friction during busy workflows.
- Better handling of complex instructions, giving you clearer, more reliable results.
- Improved business‑grade reasoning, helping you make sense of information quickly.
These changes all happen behind the scenes, upgrading the experience without altering your workflow.
Why the Change?
Microsoft is expanding Copilot’s model options so users get:
- The best‑fit AI model for each task.
- Stronger enterprise‑level safety and security.
- Smarter performance without additional licensing costs.
It’s part of a broader strategy to blend leading models, including Anthropic’s and OpenAI’s, into one unified Copilot environment.
Do You Still Need a Separate Claude Subscription?
It depends on how you use Claude today.
You may still want a standalone Claude subscription if your work relies on:
- Instant access to the newest Anthropic models.
- Features unique to Claude such as Projects, Artifacts, or Team Workspace.
- Very long‑context workloads (legal, research, large codebases).
For most Microsoft 365‑centric users, Sonnet inside Copilot will cover all daily productivity needs.
Can Claude Projects Be Migrated to Copilot?
Not currently.
Copilot does not yet offer an equivalent to Claude’s Projects feature, and there is no migration path for saved project memory, structure, or history. Manual copying works, but full project migration is not supported at this stage.
What’s Coming Next?
More model options, deeper Microsoft 365 integration, and ongoing performance upgrades are expected throughout 2026.
We’ll continue sharing updates as they become available, so you always know what’s changing, and why it matters.
If you’d like help optimising Copilot, reviewing whether you still need Claude, or supporting your team with AI adoption, the Kinetics team is ready to assist.
